I am happy to present to you: GeeknChiq 2013 in Review by PinkGingerAle

1. Hands down, Moving Forward: Sudan

This is just one example of the ways this blogger, Anfal, engages in social justice efforts. She has been working to advocate for the voiceless in Sudan by encouraging dialogue and non-political movements to create change. While living in the states, sometimes you think about countries in places like Sudan, but it’s hard to think that anything you do will ever have a ripple effect that will carry so far away. Anfal doesn’t think that way… there is no impossible. It’s beautiful to see the potential in an individual like her, someone whose mind has no limits and no place is too far away to extend a hand and hope for a change.

There is nothing more beautiful than two elegant hijabi women posted up in front of badass graffiti art. I love the way Anfal’s neutral colors contrast the deeply saturated street walls. There’s nothing that touches me more than seeing close friends enjoy my college town (that I’m obsessed with). OK, whether it’s in your backyard or miles away, you can rest assured that any day spent with Anfal is going to be a crazy, adventurous one. As there are no limits with charitable work, there are ABSOLUTELY no limits to how much fun you can have with this girl. My favorite photo is the one of Aretha Franklin’s face over Mona's. It’s so artistic and fabulous! ANDDD last opinion, I promise – I loveee the way Anfal pairs her colorfully patterned hijabs with very neutral colors, like the pink/purple scarf with the accent necklace and black on black blazer and top. I’m inspired ;)

3.     Gravity

Beautifully written, gravity is such a strong metaphor for life. What guides us, what keeps us on the right path... it’s so easy to lose ourselves in this world and get caught up in superficial things and to forget what we’re here for, and what’s important. I’m obsessed with your pink blazer, Anfal. This is another great contrasting photo series. I think the blazer makes everything fall together, in such a beautiful way. I love the turban/neck scarf combination because of its modesty and opposition to one another. Stripes will always win.

I’m obsessed with leather… SPECIFICALLY this leather jacket Anfal is wearing. I’m a huge fan of nature, and I love fashion photography in nature because the two generally don’t go together… you can’t go hiking in jeans and heals! So it’s rebellious and fun and I love it. Anfal is always so daring in her fashion… Things I would never even attempt she conquers. I love the way it seems a storm is casting itself above and it doesn’t matter at all because we’re daring, we’re storm chasers, and we’re not ones to back down when things don’t go as planned. Beautiful.

Anfal’s very first blog post! This is really exciting to me because Anfal has SERIOUS style, something I lack. I think when you have a strength, it should be fostered and you should harness it and let it consume you. Fashion is something that is not at all easy to master. I’m impressed when I see someone step away from what’s trendy and make their own statements, and I feel that’s exactly what Anfal does. As a fellow blogger, it’s amazing to watch her grow and be able to keep a journal of this journey. I’m in love with her vest jacket in this post and the earrings, YESSS. I admire Anfal for her color palate being ON POINT, always.

Anfal is one of my close friends who continues to inspire me through her blog, life, and human journeys. She stands out to me as someone who is not afraid to break the mold and really be creative. I’m excited to see more from this girl, and I hope you all continue to follow Anfal’s blog with high expectations that I have no doubt she will easily meet.

I love you Anfal<3
